Democracy is not a spectator sport. Evesham deserves leaders who respect our democracy and advocate for free and fair elections, as well as a government that works on behalf of all residents. It is critical to elect leaders who will advocate for democracy at all levels and will be uniters, not dividers.
Our community is always growing and changing, and we need leaders who can keep up with the pace of change. Joe, Christian, and Krystal know how important it is to recognize and celebrate our diversity, adopt new ideas to continuously improve safety and health, and see ahead and prepare for what our community will need in the next decade and beyond.
Christian, Krystal, and Joe are ready to work with the mayor and council on day one to ensure that our community's priorities are met. They will keep our police fully funded and build upon years of positive collaboration with Evesham Fire-Rescue and our school district to improve safety for our children and families.
Krystal, Joe, and Christian share something in common with every property owner—they pay taxes. Like most people, they want our town's resources used responsibly. Planning ahead on projects like roads, parks and recreation, and public safety is critical to keeping our community as affordable as possible over the long term while continuing to be the best town for everyone to live, work, and play.
Belief in good government is essential for leaders; following through takes time and effort. Christian, Joe, and Krystal have been and will continue to be committed to ensuring they meet with, hear from, and respond to all residents and business owners. They know that every issue is important to somebody, no matter how big or small it may seem.
Joe Fisicaro, Jr. is a 40-year resident of Evesham Township, parent, teacher, and long-time Board of Education member. A graduate of the local Evesham school district and Cherokee High School, Joe returned to serve his community after graduating from Stockton University.
Shortly thereafter, Joe won his first seat on the Evesham Township Board of Education in 2003. Joe has served on the Board of Education for all but one term since, serving as Vice President from 2006-2008 and several terms as President of the Board. From 2003 to 2008, Joe also served on the Evesham Township Planning Board.
While on the Board of Education, Joe has been witness to and active in working on various challenges facing our community, such as changes in community and student populations, Common Core and other state and federally-mandated curriculum changes, external financial pressures from the 2008 recession, and multi-million dollar cuts in state education funding over most of the past decade. Year after year, Joe has worked collaboratively with his fellow Board members, taxpayers, the Township government, and various other entities to ensure that the best possible educational and financial solution for students, teachers, and residents is found.
While public service is a significant part of his life, his true passion is his work as a teacher and working with students. Joe has been a teacher for the last 20 years, and proudly teaches history and Advanced Placement (AP) government at his alma mater, Cherokee High School. Joe also directs the incredible student actors and crew in the Cherokee Fall and Spring musicals.
Joe and his wife, Amy, who herself is a long-time Evesham resident and Cherokee High School graduate, have two beautiful girls in the Evesham School District. Joe learned about public service from his father, Joe Fisicaro Sr., who himself served on the local and regional Boards of Education, and Joe’s love and commitment to public service began when he tagged along with his father to his meetings.
Christian Smith has called Evesham home since 2013, when he and his wife, Victoria, moved to the community to begin their family.
In 2020, the residents of Evesham Township elected Christian Smith to the Evesham Township Board of Fire Commissioners. He committed his time on the Board of Fire Commissioners working to ensure the residents of this community had an efficient Fire-Resue Service equipped to meet the needs of our rapidly expanding community by promoting initiatives to strengthen our emergency response services. As a Fire Commissioner, Christian Smith worked to ensure the safety of our residents by bolstering the career ranks and supported a volunteer stipend program to implement around-the-clock, 24-hour, in-house staffing, and ensured continuous fire & EMS coverage. He worked with the executive officers to enhance the emergency vehicle fleet, allowing Evesham-Fire Rescue to respond quickly and effectively at all times of day to various incidents.
That same year, 2020, Christian joined the Evesham Township Watch Advisory Group, and in 2024, he joined the Evesham Township Human Rights Advisory Committee. Growing up in Brooklyn, Christian watched his Father take an active role in the community as an active participant within the neighborhood and NYPD community affairs division. Christian witnessed the importance of investing in and strengthening communication, engaging with first responders, and creating a safe environment in our neighborhoods, which he has carried with him. Together with his service on the Fire Commission, he has put himself forward to help create a community where all of its residents are safe and whose issues are equally and respectfully heard regardless of their race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, identity, age, disability, or socioeconomic status.
Christian’s commitment to the community is a family affair. Christian and Victoria have immersed themselves in the community, volunteering as Van Zant Elementary School PTO members and coaching as an assistant baseball and basketball coach for the Marlton Recreation League. Victoria was previously assigned to the planning board and is currently an Evesham Township Zoning Board member. Together, they take on the responsibility of showing their children the importance of being active community members.
Professionally, Christian is a Senior Audiovisual and Video Teleconferencing Systems Administrator at American Water. Before his position at American Water, Christian spent the last 17 years with U.S. Department of Defense contractors, providing technical solutions for managing and improving the Naval Surface Warfare Center’s Philadelphia Division’s multimedia infrastructure to provide audiovisual, video teleconferencing, and IT support.
Christian Smith was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, where he lived with his parents and two brothers. His father was born in Trinidad and migrated to the U.S. at 14, where he met Christian's mother in high school. Victoria was a previous resident of Evesham Township and a graduate of Cherokee High School class of 1997. In 2017, they welcomed their twins, Abigail and Angelo, who have attended the Malvern School, Marlton Christian Academy, and currently Van Zant Elementary School.
Dr. Krystal Hunter grew up next door in Mount Laurel and has called Marlton home for years now, getting involved as a volunteer at the renewed Evesham Farmers Market and serving as a Commissioner on the Evesham Municipal Utilities Authority. Krystal earned her B.A. in Economics from Spelman College and then her Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the Rutgers Graduate School of Management. She continued her education at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where she earned her PhD in Business Data Science. She applies her background and education as a Biostatistician and Associate Professor at a major regional hospital and medical school. Krystal's work includes statistical and data analysis for medical students, residents, fellows, and attending physicians; serving as a statistical consultant for education sessions of various departments; and educating the medical community in classes and one-on-one.
Outside of work and volunteering within Evesham, Krystal volunteers for two organizations - Services Empowering the Rights of Victims (SERV) and the Domestic Violence Response Team of Camden County - advocating for and assisting victims of domestic and sexual violence. Her service work has led to her recognition by SERV as a two-time volunteer of the year, and as Volunteer of the Decade from the Domestic Violence Response Team.
Krystal is committed to improving Evesham, listening to the concerns and needs of the residents and ensuring that our community receives the best services for the best value. Her professional and educational background in statistics, combined with her compassion and dedication to serving, gives her the ability to analyze, collaborate, and work for the better interest of her entire community.
